Fence Installation
Northern Virginia.
Custom wood privacy fences, board-on-board designs, cedar fences, and gate installations built to last throughout Arlington, Fairfax, Manassas, and Northern Virginia. Properly set posts, quality lumber, and craftsmanship that shows.
Built to last, built to look great.
A well-built wood fence does two things: it defines your property and adds privacy, and it adds genuine curb appeal that holds up year after year. At Ventura Home Improvement, we've been installing fences across Northern Virginia, Arlington, Fairfax, and Northern Virginia since 2015. We approach fence installation with the same care as any other project, no rushing, no skipping the details that make the difference.
The most common failure point in wood fence installations is the posts. Post depth, concrete mix, and post-hole diameter all matter, and cutting corners here is why so many fences start leaning within a few years. We set every post at the proper depth for Northern Virginia soil conditions, concrete-filled to the top of the post-hole, and we allow the concrete to cure before hanging boards. The fence that goes up straight stays straight.
For fence boards, we work with cedar and pressure-treated pine. Cedar is the premium choice, naturally resistant to rot and insects, and it takes stain beautifully to any color you want. Pressure-treated pine is a cost-effective, durable alternative. We discuss the trade-offs with you during your estimate and let you make the call based on your budget and timeline.
Gate construction is a detail many fence contractors underinvest in. A gate that sags or drags on the ground within a year is a gate that wasn't built with a diagonal brace. All of our gates are built with proper bracing, use heavy-duty hinges rated for the gate weight, and are tuned to swing smoothly and latch securely.
We also handle fence repairs, replacing damaged boards, re-setting leaning posts, reinforcing existing gates, and re-staining or sealing aged fences. If your fence just needs targeted repairs rather than full replacement, we'll tell you honestly.

Fence projects by Ventura.
Why choose Ventura for your fence installation?
Every fence post is set in concrete with proper depth for the Northern Virginia soil and climate. We don't cut corners on post setting, a fence that leans or heaves after one winter is a fence that wasn't built right.
We use pressure-treated lumber for posts and your choice of cedar or treated pine for the fence boards. Cedar is naturally rot-resistant and holds stain beautifully; treated pine is cost-effective and durable. We'll walk you through the trade-offs.
Gates are built with diagonal bracing to prevent sag over time, a detail many fence contractors skip. Our gates swing level on the day they're installed and stay that way for years.
Fence installation questions
What types of fences do you install?
We specialize in wood privacy fences, board-on-board, shadowbox, and flat-top styles. We also build cedar picket fences, split-rail fences, and custom designs. Post-and-rail and decorative wood fencing are also available. We don't currently install chain-link or vinyl.
Do I need a permit to install a fence in Northern Virginia?
Permit requirements vary by jurisdiction. In many Northern Virginia localities, fences under 6 feet don't require a permit, but there are often setback requirements from property lines. We advise you on local requirements for your specific address and handle permit applications when needed.
How long does fence installation take?
A typical residential fence install, 100 to 200 linear feet, takes 1–3 days depending on scope and terrain. Projects requiring significant grading or post holes in rocky soil take longer. We give you a clear timeline in your written estimate.
Can you repair an existing fence instead of replacing it?
Yes. If your fence structure is sound, we can replace individual boards, reset leaning posts, reinforce existing gates, and re-stain or seal the entire fence. We'll assess your existing fence honestly, if replacement makes more financial sense, we'll tell you.
